Astronomy systems

Design the imaging chain as one technical system.

Independent architecture across telescope, mount, camera, sampling, guiding, filters, computing, software and site constraints.

Who it is for

A defined service for a recognisable technical problem.

  • Astrophotographers planning a new imaging system
  • Owners diagnosing compatibility or performance problems
  • Remote-site projects that need joined-up technical decisions

Problems addressed

  • Optics and camera combinations with unsuitable sampling or field
  • Guiding, back-focus, power and connectivity overlooked during purchase
  • Capture and processing computers specified independently
  • Individual components that work but the full chain does not

Included

  • Targets, site, portability and imaging-goal definition
  • Optical, mechanical, control and computing architecture
  • Compatibility, sampling and field-of-view analysis
  • A prioritised equipment or remediation plan

Not included

  • Clear skies or image-quality guarantees
  • Equipment, shipping and vendor warranties
  • Structural or electrical certification
  • On-site integration unless separately quoted

Delivery process

Reduce uncertainty in deliberate stages.

01

Define targets

Agree object scale, site, imaging mode, portability and budget.

02

Model the chain

Check optics, sensor, sampling, field, guiding, mechanics and control.

03

Resolve constraints

Address power, data, weather, maintenance and failure modes.

04

Specify

Deliver an ordered plan with dependencies and alternatives.

Starting prices

Choose the smallest useful commitment.

Equipment, licences, travel and specialist installation remain separate.

Evidence and limits

Credibility comes from what can be checked.

  • Sampling and field-of-view calculations are recorded from stated optical and sensor data.
  • Compatibility assumptions and required adapters are made visible.
  • Recommendations separate calculated fit from performance that must be proven under the real sky.

Questions

Before you enquire.

Can you check a shopping list before I buy?

Yes. A consultation or system architecture can identify incompatibilities and missing dependencies before purchase.

Do you recommend specific brands?

Specific products may be recommended when they fit the requirement, but UDS is vendor-neutral and does not work to a product quota.

Can you calculate image scale?

Yes, and the site includes a local calculator for initial exploration. A complete design considers much more than image scale alone.

Start with evidence

Describe the current system and the outcome you need.

Include the main constraint, the people affected, the timescale and any existing specification. UDS will confirm the most proportionate first step.
